Genre: Romance, Sports, Coming of Age

Pages: 448 pages

Summary:

Things are heating up for the Sinclair boys! With one already in the NHL, Jayden Sinclair is hoping to be next!

This has been the toughest year of my life. I watched my brother go into the draft without me, my mom got divorced, and the weight of my family’s issues is heavy on my shoulders. I feel like it’s my job to fix everything while working my butt off in school and trying to make my game better. I have to go into the draft. It will give my family the support they need, and it will prove that I’m good enough. But to get there, I have to show I can be the best captain for the Bellevue Bullies. The spot is mine—no one can take it. First though, Jude is making me go on a brother’s weekend. Innocent enough, I guess…until I see her. She’s the biggest competitor I’ve ever faced. Not only for my spot but also my heart. It’s hard to ignore someone like Baylor Moore.

I don’t lose. I can’t. My dad has bred me to be the best in anything I do. I am driven, I am smart, and I am going to be the first woman in the National Hockey League. No two ways about it. I’ve worked too hard. I’ve been through too much not to have what I want. I know I can do it. I will make my dad proud, and no one will stand in the way of that. That is, until I let him in. He scares me. He makes me feel. And he could very well be the one person who can make me want more than just to win.

We both have the same goal. Victory. But how do you compete against the person you want to win? It’s not easy. Love isn’t something you can control. It isn’t like a puck that can be handled by a stick. No, it has a mind of its own and does what it wants.

Neither of us saw it coming, and we really don’t know if there is a way to score, especially when you’re being Clipped by Love.

Review:

This book is hilarious at times. I was laughing out loud throughout most of the book and crying in other parts. I loved to see how Jayden and Baylor grew as a couple. How they communicate, how Jayden is with Baylor just makes your heart hurt but in a good way.

Jayden is a great man. There should be more men like him out there. He listened to what Baylor was saying and not saying. They have a lot of obstacles to get through and we get to ride along for the journey. I swear some of the things that come out of their mouths is something that me and my friends would say. It cracks me up!

You get to see how the Bullies pull together as a team, on and off the ice. Baylor really needed to see that. She's been hurt in the past and has insecurities. I love getting to see Elli and Shea, Phillip and Reese. Makes me want to do a re-read of the Assassin Series.

Making Faces by Amy Harmon

Rating: 5 Stars

Title: Making Faces

Author:  Amy Harmon

Publisher: CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform

Genre:  Contemporary Romance

Length: 320 Pages

Summary :

Ambrose Young was beautiful. He was tall and muscular, with hair that touched his shoulders and eyes that burned right through you. The kind of beautiful that graced the covers of romance novels, and Fern Taylor would know. She'd been reading them since she was thirteen. But maybe because he was so beautiful he was never someone Fern thought she could have...until he wasn't beautiful anymore. Making Faces is the story of a small town where five young men go off to war, and only one comes back. It is the story of loss. Collective loss, individual loss, loss of beauty, loss of life, loss of identity. It is the tale of one girl's love for a broken boy and a wounded warrior's love for an unremarkable girl. This is a story of friendship that overcomes heartache, heroism that defies the common definitions, and a modern tale of Beauty and the Beast, where we discover that there is a little beauty and a little beast in all of us.

Review

I just finished this book and I LOVED IT! If I'm being honest, I had read a couple of the reviews, which I don't normally do, and they were complaining about the religious aspect of the book being shoved down their throats. I'm not really a religious person so I was a little worried about whether or not I would like it. I didn't feel like this book was like that at all. I mean, sure, there was a few mentions here and there but Fern's father is a pastor, so it wasn't like it was out of left field or anything. That said, it wasn't done in an in your face type of way at all. I wouldn't qualify this as a Christian book or a spiritual/religious book.

This isn't the typical romance that I'm used to reading these days, where boy meets girl, they fall madly in love and then fight the rest of the book to stay together. Or even fight to stay away from each other. This one follows a boy and a girl through some of their high school and post high school years as they learn what life is about and some valuable lessons along the way. This book is about more than the love story. It's about a small town and the people that live there. It's about friends and stereotypes and relationships. It's about self-image, expectations and overcoming. It's about life and how it isn't always perfect, it is in fact, sometimes downright awful, but you persevere and you do what you have to do to live the life you want. It's about the journey.

I think that overall, Ambrose grew more as a character. Fern and Bailey were both fairly well-adjusted characters that knew who they were. I think Fern had some growing to do yet, even at the end. I do think she had started her journey towards the end but I got the feeling that she would get there. There is an explanation for this in the book though, that makes total sense.
I love the poem that Fern writes. It is so fitting for her, for Ambrose and for Bailey. Oh and I adored Bailey. His attitude and outlook about life despite his limitations is so inspiring and, frankly, typical of a lot of people that I've known that had life altering limitations.

Tissue warning!! Have a box handy. That's all I'm gonna say.

This is a book that will stay with me and will absolutely be a keeper for me. It's one I will come back to and re-read. And I get to see Ms. Harmon at the Cleveland book signing next weekend....can't wait to get this one signed!

SYNOPSIS
I never look in a mirror. I don’t need to. If I want to see what I look like, I just look at my twin. Daemon and I are identical in every way — from the outside. That’s where it ends.
Born five minutes after me, my brother hates that he came second. It irks him that I breathed life into my lungs first. Ever since he’s been trying to steal everything I have. Everything I love.
To own it first.
Until the day I, Cobra Malone, become president of the Scorpio Stinger MC. I throw him out like the garbage he is. Rotten filth won’t be able to taunt me any longer.
How wrong I am.
Evil knows no barriers. It stops at nothing. It won’t rest until it gets what it wants. And he wants what is mine. MINE. He wants my woman. My air. My reason for living.
I’ll die before I let him take Mia from me.
Will this be a battle to the end? Till the last man is left standing?
When two wills this strong clash, there will be chaos . . . and blood.
Who will win? The God or The Monster?

Review

4.5 for me! This book was well worth the wait! Just from reading the prologue I had chills. I honestly didn't want to do anything but finish this book once I started. This book has some issues that will hit close to home for some people but it's so well written and it's such an integral part of the book that it had to be in there.

It breaks your heart to see how Mia grew up and I just wanted to give her a hug. You get to see how Cobra reacts to her from the get go. You also get to see how Cobra looks at Mia which makes you look at your significant other and go hmmmm....do they still look at me like that?

You get to feel the brotherly love that this club has for each other. Is anything too much to ask of a brother? Is there a line that they wouldn't cross?

Daemon/Demon ugh wow. Just wow. They sure did name him right. I can't even imagine having him as a brother.

Meet Jani Kay

Jani has been married for a long time to a special man, and her two children and their partners are the sunshine in her life. She is a voracious reader and would spend her last dollar on a book - always fascinated that for the mere price of a book, she can escape her world for a while and see through someone else's eyes.

Besides reading, her favorite 'thing' is traveling - she has traveled the world, learning about the ways people live and has come to the realization that no matter where we live, we all ultimately want the same things. Her hobby - Scrapbooking - keeps her up till way after midnight and her usual subjects are her family and her travels.

Ever since she can remember, Jani wanted to write stories about people, about their lives and loves. Relationships and Happiness - arguably the most difficult things to master in life and yet exactly what everyone ultimately desires (in her humble opinion).
